“Surfing isn’t just getting on to a surfboard, it also involves the understanding of the ocean’s mechanisms.
Surfing also requires knowing the rules and the history of the sport.
We’re here to share our passion and knowledge with you”
Miko, manager, Keep Soul Surfing
Lanzarote is an exceptional place not only for experienced surfers but also for beginners. The island offers many great quality spots. Thanks to its volcanic formation and geographical position, waves are received from all directions. There are sandy beaches in Famara and Orzola ideal for beginners and intermediate levels as well as rocky spots for international category (El Quemao, La Santa) where confirmed and experienced surfers enjoy larger and stronger waves.
There are waves throughout the whole year. In the winter the North Atlantic surge is appreciated and in the summer smaller waves are perfect for beginners. Outdoor temperatures are between 22ºC and 25ºC throughout the whole year and the sea temperature is between 18ºC and 23ºC. The sun shines 320 days a year.
KEEP SOUL SURFING – Lanzarote:
Our school, ‘Keep Soul Surfing’, located in Teguise (historical village in the centre of the island), offers many types of surf courses during the year. We also organize Surf Safaris on the coasts of the island of 300 volcanoes, which is situated in the heart of the different surf areas.
The school offers a variety of surfboards used for our courses as well as for rental. For beginners we have available Int Surfboard and Softop boards which have plastic fins, assuring maximum security and enabling the pupil to get on to the board during the first lesson. For intermediate levels we have NSP and South Point boards of various sizes. Experienced surfers can at last enjoy more radical boards such as the Surftech Tufflite. We also offer equipment, such as small foam boards and neoprene suits, adapted for children of over 8 years old. All suits are made by ‘Kanabeach’.
Our 9-seated van enables us to reach any surf spot on the island. This allows us to choose the best surfing area depending on the pupil’s level and the weather conditions that day. If it’s a whole-day class, we will stop to have a picnic at midday on the beach followed by coffee or tea helping us to regain energy to continue the afternoon session.
All of our instructors have the French ‘Brevet d’Etat en Surf’ diploma or are qualified by the Spanish Surf Federation. They have extended experience in teaching surf and are all qualified lifesavers. The deep knowledge they’ve acquired from their trips along worldwide coasts, especially in Lanzarote, will help you to discover and develop your knowledge of the sea.Our instructors will explain in Spanish, French or English, about the formation of the sea and waves, sea currents, different types of boards, the history and the men that have contributed to the evolution of this sport.
